Mountain Spring Monastery
Bilpin, New South Wales
Come home to yourself through mindfulness, community, and monastic peace.
About this retreat
Mountain Spring Monastery sits in the cool highlands of Bilpin in the Blue Mountains foothills of New South Wales, around 90 minutes from Sydney. The monastery practises within the Plum Village tradition established by Thich Nhat Hanh — a lineage rooted in engaged Buddhism and the gentle integration of mindfulness into everyday life. Regular Sunday Days of Mindfulness run from 9am to 3:30pm, weaving together sitting and walking meditation, dharma talks, chanting, and recitation of the Five and Fourteen Mindfulness Trainings. The rhythm of the day is unhurried and communal, with guests practising alongside monastics and the wider lay community. The monastery also marks key events in the Buddhist calendar, including Vesak and the Rains Retreat. There is no charge for day programs, though dana is welcomed. Best suited to those drawn to Buddhist practice and contemplative community — particularly people looking for something more grounded than a commercial wellness retreat. Open to both newcomers and experienced meditators.
